International Rectifier’s ML Series Platform Simplifies Satellite Space Power Design

ML Series dual output low power DC-DC converter is a new addition to IR’s electronic power condition (EPC) product family. It is specifically designed to provide high quality outputs for RF communication equipment. The intended RF applications include low noise amplifiers (LNA), receivers and Down Converters used onboard satellites. The design platform features output sequencing and isolated tele-command and telemetry not typically integrated into standard DC-DC converters

The ML Series is a full-feature turn-key electronic power conditioner (EPC). Ready for system use without the need for additional engineering resources, this new platform significantly reduces overall program cost and design effort for satellite manufacturers.

Features:

  • Dedicated LNA-type DC/DC Converter – 2 outputs (one positive, one negative)
  • Adaptable to operate with most satellite bus systems, 28V to 100V power buses
  • Output 1: +1.5V to +15V, max 4W or 500mA
  • Output 2: -1.5V to -15V, max 1W or 100mA
  • Output sequencing with negative Output being a priority output required by RF FET
  • Outputs overload protected
  • Integrated EMI filter compliant to major satellite power buses
  • Isolated TM/TC (high level pulse command, 12V or 26V) and On/Off status telemetry
  • Output accuracy: ±2% worst case at end of life (EOL)
  • Output ripple: < 0.5mVrms (50Hz to 50MHz)
  • Conducted susceptibility (CS) rejection input to outputs: > 90dB
  • Input under voltage lock-out (UVLO): Latching or with automatic re-start (configurable)
  • Outline: 50mm x 70mm x 17.8mm, 47.5g Radiation tolerant: TID 100kRad, SEE: 82MeV·cm²/mg

  • MA: 5W (supports typically up to 9W), 3 outputs, all linear regulators. isolated TC
  • MAB: MA version for non-isolated platforms (structure return)
  • MAH: 13W, 4 outputs, 1 high current (1.5A)
  • MAS: 12W, 3 outputs, 1 high current (1.5A)
  • MB: 15W, 3 outputs
  • MBH: 20W, 3 outputs., 1 high current (2.5A), single point failure free with regard to output overvoltage
