IR Power Management Products Receive Industry Recognition for Innovation
EL SEGUNDO, Calif. — International Rectifier, IR® (NYSE: IRF), a world leader in power management technology, today announced that a number of its power management products designed for automotive, AC-DC and DC-DC applications have received industry recognition for their innovative design.
The EN-Genius Network named the AUIRS2016S “Most Rugged High-Speed Driver for Automotive” as part of its Product of the Year Awards. The AUIRS2016S is an automotive AEC-Q100 qualified high-voltage power MOSFET high-side driver featuring an internal Vs-to-GND recharge NMOS. The AUIRS2016S features negative voltage spike immunity (-Vs) to protect against catastrophic events during high-current switching and short circuit conditions.
Additionally, the IR1168 SmartRectifier™ control IC for AC-DC power converters for high-end LCD TVs and Gen2 SupIRBuck™ integrated voltage regulators tailored for data center applications have been named EDN Innovations Awards’ finalists in the Components and Power Converters categories respectively.
The IR1168 200V dual smart secondary-side rectifier driver IC is designed to drive two N-Channel power MOSFETs used as synchronous rectifiers (SR) in resonant half-bridge topologies. In contrast to traditional current transformer SR methods, the IR1168 accurately determines turn-on and turn-off based on MOSFET drain sensing voltage in close proximity to zero current transition, eliminating the need for additional components to simplify design.
The highly versatile SupIRBuck family features IR’s latest advances in control IC, MOSFET and package integration technologies to deliver 4A, 8A, and 12A output current with benchmark efficiency over the entire load range. While optimized for 12V input voltage, superior efficiencies are also achieved in applications with 9.6V, 5V or 3.3V input voltages. As part of IR’s commitment to continuously improve the product line according to market trends and customer needs, in February 2010, the Gen2.1 SupIRBuck family was released offering more features, better performance and new current options while maintaining the same 5x6mm QFN package as previous generations.
“IR is focused on providing our customers with leading-edge power management technologies and products and we are pleased that the AUIRS2016S, IR1168 SmartRectifier IC and SupIRBuck devices are receiving recognition as highly innovative solutions that lead the field,” said Adam White, IR’s senior vice president, Worldwide Sales.
The EDN Innovations Awards are held annually to honor the most innovative people, products and technologies that shape the electronics industry. Winners are selected by a joint vote of EDN readers, editors and EDN’s editorial advisory board. On-line ballots may be cast at www.edn.com/innovation. The EDN Innovators Awards will be held in San Jose, California on Monday, April 30, 2010.
