EL SEGUNDO, Calif. — International Rectifier, IR® (NYSE: IRF), a world leader in power management technology, today introduced a series of robust single-channel high-voltage integrated circuits (HVIC) for a wide range of applications including motor control, lighting, switch mode power supplies, industrial and welding, and solar panel battery chargers.

Compared to optocouplers, the IRS211(7,8) family of 600V high-side single-channel driver ICs provide lower input current of 40 microamps and an output signal of 0 to 15 volts to reduce part count and simplify circuit design. The devices’ lower quiescent current of 340 microamps, under-voltage lockout feature and maximum junction temperature (Tj) of 150 degrees C enable more robust and reliable performance. Additionally, the IRS2117 and IRS2118 feature common mode rejection of 50V/ns.

“These new devices deliver more advantages than traditional optocoupler solutions including greater robustness while simplifying design, and round out IR’s high-voltage driver IC family with a single-channel offering,” said David Tam, vice president of Energy Saving Products.

Proprietary latch immune CMOS technologies enable rugged monolithic construction. The output driver, which is logic input compatible with standard CMOS outputs, features a high-pulse current buffer stage designed for minimum cross-conduction. The floating channel can be used to drive an N-channel power MOSFET or IGBT in the high-side or low-side configuration, operating up to 600V.

The new devices utilize IR’s advanced high-voltage IC process which incorporates next-generation high-voltage level-shifting and termination technology to deliver superior electrical over-stress protection and higher field reliability.
