EL SEGUNDO, Calif. - International Rectifier Corporation, IR® (NYSE: IRF), a world leader in power management technology, today announced its plan to participate in a consortium to drive energy efficiency innovation in China. In addition to International Rectifier, consortium members would include three leading universities in China: Harbin Institute of Technology, Zhejiang University and Tsinghua University.

The mission of the consortium is to provide a forum for the continuing cooperation between academia and industry and to develop enabling technologies for high efficiency, low cost appliances in China.

Professors Xu Dian Guo and Li Tie Cai of Harbin Institute of Technology, Professor Li Yong Dong of Tsinghua University and Professor Xu De Hong of Zhejiang University stated that, in teaming with global technology leaders, they can apply the brightest engineering minds in China to craft appliance design guidelines that will assist both industry and government in tackling worldwide energy shortages.
