International Rectifier Introduces Sub-Ohm On-Resistance Microelectronic Relay to Enhance Automated Test System Reliability and Performance

EL SEGUNDO, Calif. - March 2005 -- International Rectifier, IR®(NYSE: IRF), a world leader in power management technology, today introduced the PVY117 Series microelectronic relay (MER). The new devices are designed to increase product reliability by replacing electromechanical and reed relays that have fragile moving parts and metallic contacts with more reliable, solid-state relays that have no moving parts. In addition, MERs have lower power consumption than electromechanical relays since they have lower actuation current requirements, and the PVY117 Series MERs are much smaller compared to the electromechanical relays they are designed to replace.

The new MERs feature bounce-free operation. Their low on-state contact resistance and low off-state capacitance maximize performance in low voltage and high test frequency semiconductor automated test equipment (ATE) and other instrumentation circuits. Other applications include low voltage audio and RF switching.

"The new MERs are designed to increase end-product reliability and operational life, since the solid-state construction eliminates contacts that wear out," said Andy Serkuczewski, International Rectifier Director of Product Management, Microelectronic Relays.

"In addition, the PVY117 is housed in a subminiature, surface-mountable package for high-density applications," Serkuczewski continued.
