Onboard Cassini-Huygens

EL SEGUNDO, Calif. July 2004 - International Rectifier, IR® (NYSE: IRF), a world leader in power management technology, today announced the important role its power management technology is playing in the Cassini-Huygens space mission which has reached its orbit around Saturn. The company’s radiation-hardened DC-DC Converters and HEXFET® power MOSFETs are instrumental in managing and conditioning the power systems in both the Cassini orbiter and the Huygens probe which are set to explore Saturn and its moons over the next four years.

International Rectifier has a long, established heritage in powering space exploration of more than 20 years. Most recently, its family of radiation-hardened DC-DC converters, power ICs, and power MOSFETs have contributed to such missions as the Spirit and Opportunity Mars rovers, James Webb Space Telescope (JWST), Mars Global Surveyor, Mars Pathfinder, the International Space Station, Voyager and an array of military and commercial satellites.

Launched in 1997, the Cassini-Huygens mission is an international collaboration between NASA, the European Space Agency, and the Italian Space Agency. Over the next four years, the spacecraft and its probe will collect data for scientists hoping to learn more about Saturn, its rings and the 31 known moons that surround it.
