EL SEGUNDO, Calif. June 2004 - International Rectifier, IR®(NYSE: IRF), a world leader in power management technology, today announced the availability of the IRISMPS5 flyback power supply reference design for the IRIS4015 integrated switcher. The reference design is a universal input, 15V, 6A output AC-DC power supply that can streamline switch mode power supply (SMPS) designs used in products such as LCD monitors, CD/DVD players, fax machines, printers and set-top boxes.

"The IRIS Series integrated switchers are ideal for designers seeking a simple and efficient power stage, reducing PCB area and component count by 25% at the same or better efficiency than discrete-based circuits. This reference design implements all the features of the IRIS4015, including over-voltage and over-temperature protection with variable over-current protection. The IRIS Series integrated switchers combine a low-loss, fully characterized avalanche energy HEXFET® power MOSFET with a dual-mode voltage and current control IC in a single package. Stray inductance from the PCB and discrete packages is reduced, delivering lower switching losses at higher frequencies. In-circuit testing demonstrates that IRIS Series integrated switchers improve efficiency by up to 1.5% compared to a discrete solution with equivalent MOSFET ratings and up to 4.5% compared to competitive devices with equivalent ratings.
