International Rectifier's XPhase Scalable Architecture for Advanced CPUs Wins Electronic Products Product of the Year Award
EL SEGUNDO, Calif. December 2003 - For the second consecutive year, a power management innovation from International Rectifier (NYSE: IRF) has won the Product of the Year Award from Electronic Products magazine. This year, editors chose International Rectifier's XPhase™ chip set, which enables a flexible scalable multiphase power management architecture for today's most advanced microprocessors used in servers, workstations, and networking equipment.
Developed specifically for multiphase, interleaved buck DC-DC converters, IR's XPhase chip set consists of the IR3081 Control IC and the IR3086 Phase IC, and provides a high performance solution that exceeds the VRM or EVRD 10.x requirements. Unlike other multiphase solutions that are limited in the number of phases they drive, the IR XPhase architecture can support from 1 to "X" phases. Phases can be added or removed without changing the fundamental design.
"At IR, we focus on major design challenges facing our customers and the industry. The constant change and unpredictable nature of advanced CPU power requirements led to the development of this groundbreaking multiphase architecture. The XPhase architecture gives the designer the flexibility to make rapid design trade-offs as CPU power requirements increase over the life of the platform," said Gene Sheridan, Vice-President, Computing, Communications Business Unit at International Rectifier.
