EL SEGUNDO, Calif. September 2003 - International Rectifier, IR® (NYSE: IRF), today announced that IRF6607 DirectFET® MOSFET has won the "Top 10 DC-DC 2003" Award at Electronic Products China (EPC) magazine. Readers' votes, an independent judging panel and editors of EPC honored the DirectFET MOSFET for the innovation it brings to a broad range of applications and substantial gains in performance.

The innovative DirectFET package broke new ground by solving the serious threat that heat poses to the performance of advanced microprocessors. By deploying a new dual-side cooling design, the DirectFET package draws heat away from a computer circuit board. In doing so, the DirectFET power MOSFET effectively doubles its current handling capacity for high frequency DC-DC converters to enable even greater performance advancements in high-end desktop PCs, laptops, routers and servers.

The IRF6607 is specifically designed for synchronous MOSFET switch applications in high frequency synchronous buck converters. A buck converter using a single pair of IRF6607 DirectFET MOSFETs can deliver up to 30A per phase at 2MHz with 77% efficiency. This is twice the current output than of industry-best SO-8-packaged MOSFETs.

Earlier this month, International Rectifier announced the newest members of the DirectFET family, the IRF6608 and IRF6618. They represent the smallest control and synchronous MOSFET chip set for existing- and next-generation VRM10.x high-current synchronous buck converters.
