International Rectifier Introduces Standard Recovery Diodes with Improved Surge Capability in a New DO-5 Package

EL SEGUNDO, Calif. March 2003 - International Rectifier, IRŪ (NYSE: IRF) today introduces a new family of standard-recovery diodes in a stud-mount DO-5 plastic-cap case. The move to a plastic-cap DO-5 package improves surge current capability by as much as 40%. Diodes are used to convert raw alternating current (AC) mains electricity into direct current (DC) power, the first step in the power conversion process. Typical applications for the new diodes include battery chargers, power supplies, welding machines, alternators, generators and machine tool controls.

The new diodes are drop-in replacements for many standard devices. The new 50PF, 80PF and 95PF diodes replace IR's 40HF, 70HF and 85HF series diodes, and are available in anode-to-stud and cathode-to-stud versions, as well as leaded and wire termination versions.

DO-5 Std Recovery Diodes

Dr. Francesco Vallone, International Rectifier Product Marketing Manager said, "Diodes are used in the very first part of the power conversion process. The new diodes are made with the latest IR manufacturing techniques to enhance performance while remaining very cost-effective."
