International Rectifer's New 20V Schottkys Overcome the Efficiency Limitation of the 3.3V Output Rectification Process
EL SEGUNDO, CA. June 1999 - International Rectifier's (IR®) new 20V Schottky diode family helps power supply design engineers overcome the
efficiency limitation in the output rectification process of the Switch Mode Power Supply (SMPS), by offering the lowest VF in the industry.
The new 87CNQ020 and 47CTQ020 allow designers to achieve significantly improved system efficiency, increased power density
and improved reliability in the 3.3V switch mode supplies that are increasingly popular in telecom applications. The new devices also
reduce power losses, requiring less heat sinking and reducing component and assembly costs.
The new 20V Schottkys are offered in various packages to enhance power density with maximum efficiency, utilizing a special die
aspect ratio to take full advantage of the package die bond area.

These advanced 20V Schottky diodes combine a new proprietary barrier metal with optimized epitaxial silicon and new planar
geometries. This provides both low VF, which is needed for high-efficiency Schottky diode rectification, and an operating junction
temperature range required to guarantee reliability in telecom and industrial applications.
Samples are available now with production starting in May 1999.
