Schneider Sa Awards International Rectifier Exclusive Contract For Motor Modules
EL SEGUNDO, CA. May 1998 - Schneider SA and International Rectifier Corporation (IRF/NYSE) today announced an exclusive
three-year program to develop and supply the power electronics module for a new line of Schneider variable-speed drives for AC
motors. These innovative new motor controls reduce system cost and size while improving performance and efficiency in a wide
range of light industrial motors. The greater efficiency enables end-equipment manufacturers to meet increasingly stringent
regulations designed to conserve energy and prevent pollution of the electrical power grid.
International Rectifier's Advanced Planar Module (APM) incorporates the company's proprietary high-voltage control IC with
multiple power transistors and diodes to constitute a complete power processing subsystem. The APM simplifies motor drive
assembly and improves system cost and reliability by providing a complete, integrated and tested power subsystem.
"From home appliances to heavy industry, motors are undergoing an electronic transformation that changes the way we live
and work and use energy. International Rectifier's benchmark power conversion technology and capabilities play a pivotal role in
Schneider's ability to set the industry standard," commented Elie Belbel, Vice President and General Manager, Strategic Business
Segment Variable Speed Drives for Schneider.
"With its strategic advantages and extensive resources, Schneider is uniquely positioned to lead this advancement in
technology and industry," said Alexander Lidow, Chief Executive Officer, International Rectifier. "We are proud to be part of their
team."
The three-year program is scheduled to begin production in early calendar 1999. Target applications include commercial
food mixers and paint mixers, conveyors for automated production and warehousing, and printing equipment for small-to-medium
operations.
Schneider is a worldwide leader in the fields of electrical distribution, industrial control, and automation products and services,
