International Rectifier Introduces New Low-Cost Soft Recovery Diode Solution
"IR is offering a 'reliable and simple' fast rectifier technology at very competitive prices, for wide current and voltage ranges," says
Alberto Guerra, director of product management for input/output products at International Rectifier. "These new soft recovery diodes
offer outstanding noise reduction and low forward voltage drops."
EL SEGUNDO, CA. May 1998 - International Rectifier (IR) has developed a new series of soft recovery rectifier diodes as part of their
QUIETIR( family of products. Designated 8EWF06S and 8EWF12S, these new QUIETIR( fast recovery rectifiers are optimized for
low Vf and reverse recovery time (50ns and 80ns). The new QUIETIR( diodes offer extremely low EMI thanks to the best-in-class
softness characteristics obtained by a specific diffused junction structure and control of lifetime, helping designers meet new
international EMI regulations.
IR is also the first company offering 1200-V fast recovery diodes in a D-Pak with current ratings of up to 8 A, opening new
opportunities for size reduction of low power inverters and AC-DC front ends. The maximum operating junction temperature of 150°C
and glass passivation, offer unbeatable reliability levels and long-term stability.
Samples and production quantities of these devices are available now. . The QUIETIR( fast recovery family offers products with current ratings
of up to 80 A in a range of surface-mount and through-hole packages. They are used in input subsystems (AC-DC front ends), lowering
the conducted emissions (EN61000-4-6), or as free-wheeling diodes for inverters when the operating frequency of the inverter is
typically in the range 20-70 Khz. Further applications are in other major sectors of power conversion such as DC-choppers (electrical
vehicles), motor drivers (as front-end and free-wheeling), AC-generators (field rectifiers) and power supplies.
