EL SEGUNDO, CA. February 1998 - International Rectifier (IR), the power experts, now offers a new compact surface mounting package for power semiconductors in high-reliability space and military systems.

Designated the SMD-3, the new hermetically-sealed package is specifically designed to permit easy paralleling of components, such as rad-hard MOSFETs and Schottky diodes with current ratings of up to 75A, on copper clad printed circuit boards in compact power conversion systems. These packages are very compact with nominal dimensions of only 0.690 x 0.525 x 0.142 inches and offer junction-to-case thermal resistances of better than 0.42 K/W for optimal thermal performance.

SMD-3 packages are a continuation of IR's commitment to military and space customers and are compatible with all JANTX and JANS certification requirements for all component types. SMD-3 packaged components are also available off-the-shelf under the company's QIRL (Qualified IR List) program.
