International Rectifier's New 20-V Schottky is a Breakthrough Solution for 3.3-V Power Supply Designers
"With a 100 mV lower forward voltage drop compared to today's benchmark Schottky diodes, International Rectifier's new 20-V Schottky
diode family will allow designers of 3.3-V switchmode power supplies to significantly improve system efficiency, increase power density
and guarantee reliability," says Bret Daniels, rectifier marketing manager at International Rectifier (IR). "In addition, since these diodes
allow lower power losses, designers can greatly simplify their heatsinking requirement size, along with component and assembly costs."
EL SEGUNDO, CA. December 1997 - International Rectifier's new family of 20-V Schottky diodes are specifically designed for output rectification of 3.3-V
switchmode power supplies, and offer benchmark forward voltage drop, telecom and industrial operating temperature range, and allow higher
system power densities than other Schottky diodes.
The first two series of parts to be introduced are the 87CNQ020 and
47CTQ020. The 87CNQ020 features a Vf of 300 mV at 40 A and is
available in either the standard, surface-mount or clip-mount D-61 package. Rated at 80 A, these devices offer unparalleled efficiency and power
density for 150-300 watt DC-DC converters. The 47CTQ020 is available in the standard TO-220, surface-mount D2Pak and I2Pak (TO-263). Rated
at 40 A and featuring a Vf of 300 mV at 20 A, this series ensures maximum efficiency by utilizing a specially designed die aspect ratio that takes
full advantage of the available die bond area in the packages.
IR's new 20-V Schottky diode family combines a new proprietary barrier metal with optimized epitaxial silicon and new planar geometries
to provide both the low Vf needed for high efficiency Schottky diode rectification and an operating junction temperature range required
to guarantee reliability in telecom and industrial applications.
