International Rectifier New QIRL Program Provides Standardized Rad-Hard Components for Space Applications
Power components in the QIRL (Qualified IR List) program are Rad-tested and screened to MIL PRF-19500 Space levels, yet have lead times
as short as two weeks for volume orders.
EL SEGUNDO, CA. October 1997 - The Government & Space division at International Rectifier (IR) now offers a new way to purchase power components for
Space applications that are Rad-tested, where applicable, fully screened and qualified to the appropriate MIL SPECs and are available with very
short lead-times, often as little as two weeks.
The new program, called QIRL (Qualified IR List), represents a standardized approach to Space level products procurement. The new
program reduces total customer costs, significantly improves lead-times, eliminates the need for customer drawings and reduces minimum order
quantities for a wide range of power components, including MOSFETs, Schottky diodes and Control ICs.
"QIRL represents a real economical alternative to QPL (Qualified Product List) product, with IR controlling all the documentation and
drawings rather than the Defense Supply Center Columbus," explained
Richard Southwell, Marketing Manager. "It is another way that we maintain the integrity of our screening
and compliance efforts, yet reduce costs for our Government and Space customers. While other companies are attempting to force unscreened
and under-tested commercial grade products on the market, we are developing innovative ways to make fully screened and tested components less
expensive and more available."
Southwell indicated that QIRL products are manufactured using JANS wafers and are fabricated and tested on a fully compliant JANS line. In addition,
QIRL products meet identical electrical, mechanical and test requirements as JANS QPL devices and can therefore be stocked in inventory before an
order is received. "With QIRL, the only difference is in the cost and availability, both of which favor the customer," he said.
"While we at IR will encourage our Government and Space customers to save time and money by ordering standardized products, we
understand their business well enough to know that this is not always possible," Southwell said. "As a result, all of our existing programs for
producing power components to exacting customer specifications will continue."
