International Rectifier Achieves QS9000 Certification
"Our quality control mission statement at International Rectifier is to develop and implement a quality management system to meet our
TECPLAN 9000 Quality System, which is fully compliant with both ISO9000 and QS9000, and to coordinate continuous improvement activities
to meet or exceed customer quality requirements at a competitive cost," says Jeff Parker, director of quality for the automotive sector at
International Rectifier.
EL SEGUNDO, CA. September 1997 - International Rectifier (IR) El Segundo, IR Mexico and IR Great Britain have joined HEXFET® America in achieving QS9000
certification. International Rectifier, the leading supplier of advanced power semiconductors, now has four manufacturing facilities with QS9000
certification. HEXFET America achieved this certification on May 1, 1997, while the other sites achieved certification in August, 1997.
In their on-going efforts to improve the IR quality system, International Rectifier's Quality Council created TECPLAN 9000. TECPLAN 9000
defines the IR quality system and the system is fully compliant with ISO9000 and QS9000. To assure compliance, IR had each facility upgrade
their ISO9000 certification to QS9000.
Each of IR's facilities designated a team leader to oversee a group of 22 TECPLAN 9000 teams. The teams were asked to analyze and rectify
the gaps between the requirements of QS9000 and the current quality systems for each element of QS9000. Once IR's TECPLAN 9000 team
achieved QS9000 certification in these facilities, they developed a plan for each team to review their quality elements and create new gap analyses
to the requirements of TECPLAN 9000 a minimum of two times per year. It is the responsibility of the Quality Council to keep the teams on track
and to help remove any obstacles that might impede the team in continuous improvement activities.
