EL SEGUNDO, CA. June 1997 - International Rectifier's (IR) first documentary on the history of power semiconductor technology, "The World in a
Grain of Sand," wins a Vision Award, honoring excellence in television production. The Public Broadcasting System (PBS) plans to
air the documentary on June 23rd in select US markets. In addition, Globe-TV (Scan) plans to air segments of the documentary in their
summer programming.
The documentary tells the story of the evolution of the semiconductor industry from the vacuum tube to the integrated circuit. A review
of significant historical events over the past five decades provides explanations of how the semiconductor has been the hidden
catalyst behind every important development in electronics. The documentary closes with a look toward the future and examines
not only additional uses of power, but how we can use power more efficiently.
