International Rectifier Announces the SOT-227 - the Cost Effective, Universal Solution to Power Applications
This new Universal Power Package has everything a designer needs for a Power Conversion Application. In a single switch he can
choose our IGBT technology with lowest switching and conduction losses, or a HEXFET with an ultra low RDS(on). These are the
highest efficiency IGBTs: they have the lowest switching and conduction losses in the industry, says Haim Taraseiskey, Strategic
Marketing Manager at International Rectifier. Low inductance design, ultra high power density in a low profile isolated case, easy
assembly, and low cost make the SOT-227 the package of choice for kW-range Power Conversion.
EL SEGUNDO, CA. May 1997 - International Rectifier (IR) is introducing a new Universal Power Package, the SOT-227. The selection includes
IGBTs with voltage ratings of 600 V and current ratings of 80 A and 100 A, and a IGBT/FRED Co-Pack rated at 600 V and 75 A. The
500 V HEXFETs are rated at 38 A and 53 A followed by 100 V HEXFETs rated at 180 A. These basic power switches are optimized
for high efficiency performance in Power Conversion Applications - including switch mode power supplies, uninterruptable power
supplies, welding, and induction heating. The Co-Pack IGBT/FRED can be easily configured into a half-bridge or paralleled for higher
current handling capability.
The ceramic substrate ensures isolation at 2,500 V rms, with very low thermal resistance. This allows the SOT-227 to operate
at a higher
case temperature, while maintaining the junction temperature within safe limits. Or, with lower operating temperatures, designers can
now achieve much higher system reliability. The electrically isolated baseplate is exposed allowing for direct mounting to the
heatsink, meeting the industry standards for safety.
Samples and small order quantities are available now, with full production volumes starting August, 1997.
