International Rectifier Expands Family of Control ICs for Half-Bridge Power Converters
EL SEGUNDO, CA -- International Rectifier (IR), the power
semiconductor experts, have expanded their popular IR215x family
of control ICs with two new devices designated IR2153 and IR2154.
Both devices are in full production with sample units available
on request.
Existing IR215x series devices integrate a highly stable programmable
oscillator and a complete half bridge driver, eliminating the prior need
for gate drive transformers. Benefits to the user include reduced printed
circuit board area, broader switching bandwidth and improved gate drive.
In response to valued customer feedback, current demand has
been significantly reduced in the IR2153 and IR2154. Micropower
startup and integrated under voltage lockout combine to improve
compatibility with off-line power applications. This high volume
market includes products such as lighting ballasts, adapters, chargers
and consumer power supplies.
A high speed shutdown function has been integrated to aid
protection of power MOSFET or IGBT switches during abnormal
loading conditions. This useful feature has been added whilst
broadly retaining pin compatibility with existing 8-pin IR215x
family devices. The IR2153 and IR2154 differ only in the phasing of
oscillator and gate drive signals.
