International Rectifier Reduces Leadtimes for IGBTs and FETs to Just Two Weeks
More efficient manufacturing process and improved yields
shortens leadtimes for high performance IGBTs and FETs.
EL SEGUNDO, CA, September 1996 - International Rectifier (IR), the leading supplier of advanced semiconductors for power
conversion applications, said that leadtimes for many of its popular power switches -- both IGBTs and FETs -- is now just two weeks.
This represents a breakthrough in availability for these popular power discretes, which recently had leadtimes as long as 52 weeks.
"The new short leadtimes are due in part to IR's new process advances that have dramatically reduced cycle times for
both technologies over the last six months," said Chris Ambarian, director of switch strategic marketing at International Rectifier.
"Our newest generations of field effect transistors, Gen 5 HEXFETs and Gen 4 IGBTs are being produced at HEXFET America in
Temecula, California -- which sets the industry standard for efficient power semiconductor manufacturing. Advancements in automated process control and out in-line production layout significantly improved overall product yields."
The new two-week leadtimes are for the most popular package styles of these power switches, including Gen 5
HEXFET® power MOSFETs in D-PAK, TO-220 and TO-247 packages and Gen 4 IGBTs in TO-220 and TO-247
packages. Ambarian indicated that each of these is the most efficient component of its type available on the market.
"Our Gen 5 benchmark HEXFETs feature the lowest RDS(on) specifications of any MOSFETs on the market today, and
offer a real breakthrough in cost per amp," Ambarian explained. "Similarly our Gen 4 IGBTs provide up to 40 percent performance
improvement in efficiency when compared with competing devices and IR's previous generation. These Gen 4 IGBTs exhibit
virtually the same drive requirements, switching behavior, and thermal characteristics as older generation parts, making them ideal drop-in replacements.
"By substituting our new power switches, IR customers can now upgrade the efficiency of their power systems designs, and
cut their component leadtimes to virtually off-the-shelf," he added.
