International Rectifier Announces Dual-Pole 400 V Solid-State Relays
EL SEGUNDO, CA, May 1996
-- International Rectifier (IR) has introduced the PVT422 Series
of dual-pole, normally-open photovoltaic relays. These devices
can replace electro-mechanical relays in many applications, and
have been designed for use in high-volume applications in peripheral
telecom systems such as multi-function telephones, answering machines,
credit card readers and fax modems.

The PVT422 Series use IR's HEXFET® power MOSFET as the output switch,
driven by an integrated circuit photovoltaic generator of novel
construction. The output switch is controlled by radiation from a GaAIAs light-emitting diode, which is optically
isolated from the photovoltaic generator. Input to output isolation
is 4,000 Vrms, with 1,000 V dc isolation between channels. The
relays are rated at 0-400 V, 120 mA AC/DC. Unlike competitive
relays, the maximum load current is not derated when both poles
are on simultaneously.
The relays offer solid-state reliability coupled with bounce-free
operation. They are supplied in an 8-pin molded DIP package, with
either through-hole or gull-wing surface-mount terminals.
