EL SEGUNDO, Calif. - International Rectifier, IR®, (NYSE: IRF) today announces that its world headquarters facilities in El Segundo are certified to be in compliance with the international quality standard ISO14001 for environmental quality. The ISO14001 standard is an environmental management system that provides a quantified, objective measure to ensure ever-greater reductions in energy use, environmental impact and natural resource depletion

Alex Lidow, International Rectifier Chief Executive Officer, said, "We see the adoption of ISO 14001 as a natural extension of our fundamental business objectives. IR's power management technology makes appliances, air-conditioners, lights and vehicles more efficient users of electricity. In doing so, the world burns far less fossil fuel, protecting the Earth's air, water and ozone layer. ISO 14001 is yet another tool we are deploying to ensure the health of the planet for future generations."

Energy-saving efforts at IR successfully reduced greenhouse gases such as carbon dioxide (CO2) and nitrogen oxides (NOx) by approximately 25% annually since 1997. This is equivalent to providing utilities for approximately 317 average family homes annually.

"International Rectifier has always routinely recycled scrap materials. As part of the ISO14001 certification process, IR expanded its recycling efforts, achieving a 50% improvement in recycling compared to last year," said Clare Elser, International Rectifier Environmental Management Representative.

The El Segundo operation joins other International Rectifier facilities that have achieved ISO14001 certification, including: HEXFET America semiconductor fabrication facility in Temecula, California; Rectificadores Internacionales S.A. de C.V. in Tijuana, Mexico; International Rectifier Xian Corporation (IRXC), China and International Rectifier Automotive Systems GmbH in Krefeld Germany.
