International Rectifier Introduces myPOWER On-Line Design to Cut Months Out of the Design Process for Advanced Power Systems

EL SEGUNDO, Calif. - International Rectifier, IRŪ (NYSE: IRF) introduces the myPOWER On-line Design Center, an Internet-based design and simulation tool combined with overnight design kit fulfillment to cut weeks, or even months of design time for advanced power systems. The myPOWER On-line Design Center incorporates a free simulation tool that delivers very high accuracy (+/-5%) at very high speed (less than 5 seconds) and provides customized design kits that are delivered within 24 hours in the Continental US and three days overseas. The myPOWER Online Design Center can be found at http://mypower.irf.com.

Unlike other web-based design tools available today, the myPOWER On-Line Design Center offers the very high accuracy needed for design optimization, rather than simplified waveforms, getting the designer as close as possible to the final electrical solution in the shortest time

Power systems design is getting more complex as power density and system functionalities increase exponentially. Advanced power system development times are stretching due to the lack of adequate commercially available development tools combined with the time of procuring and optimizing breadboards.

"Designers resort to 'trial and error' or 'cut and paste' old designs but then struggle to meet tougher performance or cost goals. The result is hurting the productivity of OEM's for whom power systems is a necessity but not a core competency," said Gene Sheridan, Vice-President, Computing, Communications and Appliance Business Unit, at International Rectifier. "IR's myPOWER On-Line Design Center redefines the design process for power systems and will provide our customers with a much-needed competitive edge."

Power system design complexity is specifically acute in the fast moving digital world of information technology. The myPOWER Online Design Center is now operational for DC-DC converters operating in the range of 20A to 80A currents, 200kHz to 1000kHz frequencies and 1.1V to 1.85V output voltages. "The myPOWER On-line Design Center is expected to expand regularly into broader areas of DC-DC converters as well as other applications such as AC-DC converters, appliances and lighting", added Sheridan.

myPOWER Design Center
The myPOWER On Line Design Center generates a customized design, including a complete bill of materials. The designer can run a simulation to verify system behavior, and optimize the circuit for performance and cost, eliminating much of the traditional bread-boarding development time.

The simulator is capable of generating waveforms for step loads, changing input voltages, steady state transient analysis and a complete AC analysis. High accuracy provides robust designs. The components used in the design provide some of the highest performance power system available in the industry. Once the designer has settled on his design, he can immediately order a customized design kit for prototyping and final production circuit development.

By incorporating non-idealized FET models and parasitics into the power system model and mathematically reducing them to a few equations with MathCAD, the Spice simulator incorporated in the myPOWER Online Design Center demonstrates +/-5% accuracy while compressing computational time down to two seconds.

Price and availability

Use of myPOWER Online Design Center is free. A custom design kit includes a standard, fully-assembled and tested PCB sub-assembly with a kit of parts that allows the designer to customize the board to his selected design. Pricing for custom design kit starts at $335 each. Delivery of the design kit is next business day in the Continental US and within 3 days overseas if the order is placed by 7PM EST.
