International Rectifier Introduces Higher-Efficiency MOSFETs for Emerging Automotive Applications
EL SEGUNDO, Calif. - International Rectifier, IR® (NYSE: IRF), introduces an expanded and improved portfolio of automotive HEXFET® power MOSFETs with 10% lower on-resistance, or RDS(on) than previous devices. The new series includes the IRFR3504 and IRFU3504, featuring 9.2 millimOhms on-resistance, and are among the best-performing, lowest on-resistance, Q101-qualified D-Pak and I-Pak automotive MOSFETs on the market.
Typical applications include emerging 42V and current 14V automotive sub-systems such as cooling fan controls, integrated starter alternator (ISAD) circuits, synchronous rectifier alternators, electrical power steering (EPS), fuel injectors, solenoid and relay drivers, air bag systems, anti-lock brake systems and window and door lifts.
The lower RDS(on) rating of the new MOSFETs increases efficiency and reduces power loss and thermal resistance. The new MOSFETs are rated for repetitive avalanche up to 175°C. The TO-220 and D-Pak devices are Q101-qualified to 175°C and are fully characterized avalanche energy rated (single-pulse, EAS and repetitive, EAR) for automotive applications. The D2Pak and TO-262 package devices are industrial-qualified.
"Low on-resistance leads to a reduction in the number of parallel devices, shrinking circuit footprint and offering similar performance to larger outline devices. This 'smaller yet similar' efficiency increase is a main ingredient in the quest for improved automotive efficiency and better miles-per-gallon," said Randy Frank, Manager, North American Automotive Marketing at International Rectifier.
