EL SEGUNDO, Ca. October 2001 - International Rectifier, IRŪ (NYSE: IRF) today introduced the UFB200FA20 and the UFB200FA40 two hundred amp, ultrafast, general-purpose output rectifiers in the SOT-227 package.

The new devices are made for output rectification circuits in high current applications, such as welding, power supplies and battery chargers. The 200A rectifiers have up to 11% faster recovery time than competing 200V devices and approximately 17% faster recovery time than competing 400V devices. Soft recovery and frequency characteristics enable higher welding frequencies, which, in turn, make bulky magnetic components such as transformers and coils smaller, less expensive and more reliable. Reducing magnetic component size contributes to overall welding equipment efficiency and reliability.

Dr. Francesco Vallone, International Rectifier Product Marketing Manager said, "The four terminal configuration allows optimum flexibility. The two diodes are independent, and may be used separately or connected in a series, common-anode, or series, common-cathode configuration."

Technical Highlights

The UFB200FA20 (200V) and UFB200FA40 (400V) output rectifiers contain two independent diodes electrically isolated from the copper mounting substrate, to simplify heatsink mounting. Multiple devices may be used separately or together for greater voltage or current capability.

Newly-designed high-performance silicon die allow a thicker substrate to be used, for improved mechanical strength and electrical insulation. Insulation voltage rating is 2500 volts RMS between live terminals and the copper base.

The SOT-227 is one of the primary industrial mid-power range packages, and is used predominantly throughout the switch-mode power supply and welding markets. The new devices exceed performance specifications of competing devices, and are designed for simplified insertion into existing or new designs.

The new UFB200FA20 (200V) and UFB200FA40 (400V) ultrafast soft recovery diodes are available immediately. Pricing is US $6.80 each for 200V and US $7.06 each for 400V devices in 5,000-unit quantities.
