International Rectifier Introduces Compact Bridge Rectifier Line for Industrial and Consumer Applications

EL SEGUNDO, CA. March 2001 - International Rectifier Corp. (NYSE: IRF) introduces the GBL- and GBU-Series bridge rectifiers for general use in industrial and consumer electronics equipment, such as power supplies and portable electronics.

The GBL and GBU bridge rectifiers are rated for 50 to 1200 volts. The GBL-Series devices are rated at four amps, while the GBU-Series devices are rated at 4, 8 or 6 amps. The new bridge rectifiers are made with four glass-passivated silicon junctions assembled on copper lead-frames, and encapsulated in a four-pin, single in-line package (SIP).

Glass passivated chips have better high temperature, reverse bias (HTRB) characteristics than conventional die-attach type devices, and can withstand harsh enironmental condtions such as temperature cycling tests from - 55°C to +150°C and moisture resistance testing at 85°C with 85 percent relative humidity. The GBU and GBL bridge rectifiers are Underwriters' Laboratories certified under class 94V-0 for inflammability.

According to Vito Bellino, Technical Marketing Manager, "The GBL and GBU bridges are made for high-volume manufacturing methods. The package and lead configurations provide mounting flexibility."

Bridge Rectifier

The new bridge rectifiers are compatible with eutectic (below 245°C) or high-temperature (260°C) soldering methods. The GBL bridges have straight leads, and are ideal for printed circuit board or point-to-point wiring. The GBU bridges have a mounting hole in the center of the package, for secure mounting to heat sink surfaces.
