International Rectifier Expands Fast Recovery Diode Offering
with 400V Devices
EL SEGUNDO, CA. March 2001 - International Rectifier (NYSE: IRF) announced the expansion of its ultra fast recovery epitaxial diode (FRED) family to include 400 volt-rated devices. Output diodes with ultrafast recovery speeds increase power supply efficiency, while reducing size, weight and cost.
The new 8ETU04, 16CTU04, 30CPU04 and 60EPU04 diodes have current ratings from 8A to 60A and are appropriate for 48V output switch-mode power supply (SMPS) systems. Typical applications include datacommunication and telecommunication system equipment. Generally, two to four FRED devices are used in each power supply for each datacom or telecom unit. This market represents one of the fastest growing segments in the power supply industry.
Stephen Oliver, Technical Marketing Manager at International Rectifier, said, "The new diodes have fast recovery time, combined with a 'soft' recovery waveshape to reduce or eliminate the need for snubber components in the output circuit. The low forward voltage drop reduces conduction losses, and low reverse recovery current reduces switching losses. All features combine to significantly reduce power dissipation, operating temperature, physical size, weight and cost while increasing power supply efficiency and reliability."
Pricing and Availability
Pricing for the new 400V fast recovery epitaxial diodes begins at US $0.45 each in 10,000-unit quantities for the 8ETU04.
