Output Rectification
In offline SMPS, the output stage delivers the required DC voltage to the load. The power components used in this stage are Schottky diodes, ultra-fast diodes, and, in the case of synchronous rectification, low gate charge and low RDS(on) power MOSFETs.
Up to 24V output, synchronous rectification MOSFETs offer the best efficiency, particularly at lower output voltages, while Schottky diodes are an economical high performance solution. At voltage levels higher than 24V, ultra-fast diodes offer superior performance with lower conduction and switching power losses.
Synchronous Rectification MOSFET
Designers have turned to application-optimized synchronous rectification MOSFETs to increase efficiency for lower output voltages. Low gate charge and low RDS(on) MOSFET can reduce conduction and switching losses by up to 20%.

Schottky Diodes
IR offers one of the broadest lines of Schottky rectifiers available in the industry. IR's Schottky packaging ranges from surface mount and axial lead types with ratings of a few amps, to large dual die modules rated in excess of 400 Amps.

Ultrafast Diodes
IR's ultra-fast diodes offer ultra-soft recovery and have low forward voltage drop and reverse leakage, critical parameters which reduce conduction and switching losses. The ultra-soft recovery also minimizes radiated electrical noise and eliminates the risk of voltage spikes that can damage the diode or other components.
