RAD-Hard MOSFETs - R8 Technology

IR’s new R8 radiation hardened logic level gate drive power MOSFETs set a new industry standard for lowest on-resistance (RDS(on)) and switching speed (QG) enabling the best in class efficiency performance for point of load voltage regulators.

R8 power MOSFETs are the latest generation of radiation hardened MOSFETs from IR. The first RAD-Hard MOSFET taking full advantage of Trench technology offers an unmatched on-resistance (RDS(on)) and total gate charge (QG). The first device in the series has a BVDSS rating of 20V and a maximum drain current (ID) rating of 17A. The new product is optimized to be used as the power switches for a point-of-load voltage regulator design applications. It offers an increase in efficiency performance by as much as 6% or more over the existing product solutions. The new R8 is available in IR’s new SMD 0.2 surface-mount style package, the smallest surface-mount package in the industry. It is also offered in a TO-39 package or in a die form for microcircuit design solutions.

R8’s extremely low on-resistance and gate charge enables a POL design to achieve the highest efficiency performance the industry has ever seen. A packaged device in the SMD 0.2 package only available from IR also offers 50% space saving against the existing SMD 0.5 package solution.
