Linear Regulators can be used when VOUT is not much lower than VIN, and current is low. The power conversion
efficiency in fact is equal to (VIN -VOUT)/VIN and the power loss on the regulated
MOS equal to (VIN -VOUT)IOUT. For example for a 5VIN to 1.35VOUT conversion with IOUT=8A, the power loss
on the device to dissipate would be 29.2W with an efficiency equal to 27%. IR provides LDO control IC
integrated with PWM controllers for sync buck converter, as well as several integrated solutions with Single
or Multiple outputs.
