Our commitment to EHS is an extension of our product technology and mission of increasing energy efficiency and decreasing energy consumption. Our business contributes to increased environmental value and social responsibility. IR is dedicated to providing a safe and healthful workplace and to preserving our environment for future generations. As part of that effort, IR monitors its Natural Resource Usage and the amount of Waste Produced and Recycled.
For the period 2008 to 2010, like most companies in the semi-conductor industry, IR experienced significant change in manufacturing levels. For calendar 2009, due to the global economic downturn, IR’s production volume significantly dropped from 2008, thereby adversely impacting our 2009 production normalized results. In 2010, manufacturing output significantly increased improving our normalized results. While these current results are driven largely by production levels, IR anticipates being able to measure increased efficiency over time with a more robust data set to compare future values to.
IR compared the amount of water, electricity and natural gas consumption to the square meter of wafer produced to be able to track the efficiency of natural resource usage (less consumption is better). Even with increased manufacturing in 2010, the use of natural resources was down approximately 30% across all three parameters as compared to 2009. |
Similarly, IR compared the amount of waste generated and recycled to the square meter of wafer produced (less pounds of waste produced and more pounds of waste recycled is better). Even with increased manufacturing in 2010, the amount of waste generated decreased by 34% and recycling was up 37% as compared to 2009. |
