We, at International Rectifier, are developing and manufacturing our most advanced power management
technologies at our Newport facility, focusing on analog and mixed signal markets, using CMOS and Power
MOSFET processes.
Production and test facilities are all located at one site in Newport, South Wales. The
six-inch fab (Fab 10) supports wafers at 0.5µm and combines conventional and SMIF cleanroom
concepts to provide class 1.0 and class 0.1 environments, respectively. With a cleanroom area
of 3,000m˛, the eight-inch fab (Fab 11) supports wafers at 0.35µm. There is also a design center
located at Oxted and European support centre located at Reigate.

Reporting to the European Field Applications Engineering Manager, you will be responsible for the design
in of existing products and definition of new Switch Mode Powersupply products for OEM and distribution.
You will facilitate the communication of customer-requirements providing application expertise to the
customer in the field of DC/DC converters. Other core tasks include:
- Providing application specific expertise in SMPS design towards the customer and towards the Design centre.
- Working closely with the Sales Department to meet common targets and solve customer problems.
- Working directly with customer design and design management personnel on a project-by-project basis.
- Establishing and developing relationships with key customer engineering personnel and decision makers.
- Providing feedback to the engineering and manufacturing departments on product improvements, new product concepts and new product characterization.
Relevant candidates should be qualified to HNC/HND (or equivalent) in an engineering or technical
discipline. Proven experience in Switch Mode Powersupply product design, or similar field applications
experience at a manufacturer or distributor of digital, analogue or power semiconductors is essential.
This role would also suit candidates from a Class D audio design motorcontrol background. We would be
especially keen to hear from candidates with the following skills:
- Experience of working with SMPS topologies and selection criterions, and high frequency board layout including EMC aspects.
- Experience of Mosfet / Diode / capacitor selection and parasitics
- Ability to measure switching / conduction losses, efficiency and load transients
- Experience of working with simulation tools such as Spice or Saber and / or board layout tools is advantageous but not essential

Position Objective:

customers in Northern Europe including OEM and distribution. You will facilitate communication of customer-requirements into
the Design Centre / Marketing in Los Angeles, Italy, Wales & England, providing Application expertise to the customer in the
field of motor control
Responsibilities/ Tasks of the position:
- Provide application specific expertise in Motorcontrol design towards the Design centre.
- Work in a team with Sales in order to meet common targets, and field Quality in solving customers problem.
- Work directly with customer design and design management personnel on a project by project basis.
- Located in the field or a regional IR location, spending most of the time with customer design teams.
- Establish and develop relationships with key customer engineering personnel and decision makers.
- Provide feedback to engineering and manufacturing on product improvements, new product concepts and new product characterization.
Requirements in Qualification & Experiences:
- Proven experience in Motorcontrol design. Design experience within the motorcontrol area.
- Have a detailed understanding of the digital / analogue Motorcontrol Design within Industrial Motor control.
- Understand variable speed motor drive control architecture
- Understand the application and control differences between AC induction, Brushless DC / PM Motor, Switched–Reluctance Motors.
- Understand digital PWM strategies like space-vector modulation.
Education:
- HNC/HND (or equivalent) in an engineering or technical discipline.
